Dear Desrie, Bev and Kirsty
I’m sorry I didn’t see Danny in the last few years but I wanted to remember him as he was, over 50 years ago.
I’ve got some really good memories of Danny and I’ll never forget one of the funny times we had. I remember we were having a good afternoon drinking in the Crows Nest in Llanyravon and one of the boys was showing off as usual, telling us that he ran for a Welsh Athletic Team and how fit he was and how fast he could run etc. Anyway, Danny being Danny, threw down a challenge to him, to run three times round Llanyravon (which was about 5 miles) to see who really was the fastest, the fittest and the best, as he was fed up with him. I was fit at the time and just out of the army, so I fancied my chances too. The three of us lined up outside the Crows Nest and Danny shot off like a hare and stayed in front all the way, coming home in 1st place. I came second and the ‘athlete’ was last! Danny told him exactly what he thought of him in no uncertain terms, “..*:*&*^*%*$**£(*@*..”
I didn’t realise how fit he was at that time or how competitive he was, or I'd never have run against him.
Danny was a good friend and I feel proud to have known him.
